Research shows HFC can have the following detrimental effects on health: 

  • More easily turned into fat than any other carbohydrate because of it’s rapid effects on insulin (fat storing hormone) 
  • Shuts off switches that control insulin 
  • Liver is responsible for the burden of metabolizing HFCS = less energy for other functions like filtration of other toxins 
  • Increases triglyceride levels in the blood by 32%! This is a concern for both heart health and risk for diabetes 
  • HFC been linked to learning and behavioural disorders in children

The best way to ensure you’re avoiding this nasty sweetener is to read ingredients! If you see glucose/fructose (Canadian label for HFCS) you want to steer clear!
